Application DEADLINE: MARCH 1 to the foundation

Each Guidance Department must submit applications of selected district candidates by March 1. To accomplish this, district Guidance Offices will set earlier application dates for their respective districts to allow for sufficient time to review and select the candidates who will be submitted to the Foundation for final consideration.

The Alice & Murray Giddings Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1995 to acknowledge and foster young adults who evidence high academic achievement, strong leadership qualities, and involvement in service to their communities.

The Foundation awards merit based scholarships (up to $5000) annually to high school seniors graduating from the public school systems in Columbia County, New York.

To qualify a candidate must:
  • attend one of the six public schools located within the County or one of the associated Questar programs
  • anticipate graduation in the school year of application
  • gain admission to an accredited two or four year post high school educational program. (Eligible programs may include vocational programs, community colleges, and four year colleges or universities).
  • matriculate in a post-secondary program in the same calendar year as high school graduation
  • demonstrate and document leadership qualities within the school and / or community environment
  • demonstrate and document involvement in community service and extracurricular activities

Applicants for the Giddings Foundation Scholarship must collaborate with the Guidance Departments of their respective schools to complete the requisite application materials. Complete application procedures and deadlines are found in the HOW TO APPLY section of this website.

The Guidance Department of each school district will review all applications from graduating seniors, and nominate three applicants for final consideration by the Giddings Foundation Board of Directors.

The Foundation will award several scholarships annually. While the Foundation is committed to reaching across the entire County, it does not set a quota per school district or Questar program. The Foundation grants awards to the most qualified students in the application pool.

For submission to the Board of The Giddings Foundation: Application deadline is
March 1 of the calendar year.
